Follow these safety tips to help avoiding making yourself vulnerable to opportunists and professional criminals every time you travel. Following these travel security tips you will greatly reduce the odds of becoming a victim of targeted crime on your business trip.
1. Prior to your business trip, log into the foreign and commonwealth website (FCO) and research the area you are visiting. The website gives you up to date information on political climate, criminal stats, were to avoid, embassy details and much more.
2. When travelling first and business class, try to delay your exit in higher risk areas to avoid coming out first in your expensive suit. Try to blend in, these steps will allow you to exit the airport unnoticed, our Chauffeurs are aware of local risks and will take steps to avoid any tails as such to hotels to avoid any safety worries. We allow a generous waiting time allowance for Airport collections which will help avoid such risks.
3. When booking a hotel, ensure it has a security personnel 24 hours a day and try to use a hotel away from any higher risk target buildings such as embassies and government buildings. Also avoid leaving your valuables in your room and use a safe including any ID (Passport, Driving Licence and even your staff pass).
4. When checking in at a hotel, try to put as little personal information as possible on any reservation form.
5. In the case of an extreme emergency or incident outside of your hotel, avoid going to the window. Instead, double lock your room and remain safe until staff advise further.
6. If you need to make travel arrangements to get to your meeting then ensure that you only use Safe Solo or a registered licensed taxis with official markings ensuring that the driver has their official identification. Do not share a taxi unless you are familiar with the other passengers.
7. If you have to walk anywhere, be aware of your surroundings and when coming back to the hotel late, be cautious and if possible use the lift when unoccupied.
8. In the event of a mugging, keep a couple of old credit cards and a small amount of cash in a separate wallet which you can hand over.
9. Add local emergency numbers to your phone and try to remember them during your trip.
10. If you need to use a taxi service, understand the route prior to travel, (main roads, estimated time to location). If you need to book one from a restaurant etc, ask for the name of the company and ask the driver to confirm which company he is with.
Lastly, be aware, ensure your office is aware of your location (travellers go missing only part of there journey which is to/from hotels, offices, meetings and when having leisure time).
